Misael & Ellisa | Engagement Portraits on the family ranch | Dublin, TX

We're so excited to tell y’all the love story of these two, because it is the sort of cute, everyday love story that shows finding your perfect person is possible.

Misael & Ellisa met at a mutual friend’s house party. Misael, tired from working a long day, was sitting quietly on the couch, watching TV. Ellisa came up and sat beside him, and struck up a conversation. She asked him a lot of questions, but being so tired, Misael wasn’t very talkative. Then, when Ellisa went to chat with someone else at the party, Misael left without saying good-bye.

Ellisa thought that was the end of that, and didn't expect to connect with Misael again. She was surprised when their mutual friend told her Misael had asked for her number so he could call and apologize for appearing rude. The apology led to Misael asking Ellisa out on a first date, which led to a more formal second date. It was at this second date Misael likes to joke that Ellisa “fell for him,” since she literally missed the step getting out of his truck and face-planted in the grass right in front of him. Luckily for these two, laughter is one of their defining marks as a couple, so they laughed it off and have been together ever since.

One of their favorite ways to spend time together is visiting Misael’s family’s ranch. Ellisa enjoys spending time with his family and his mom’s home-cooking. Both Misael and Ellisa work with cows, so they also like to drive out on the property to check in on the cows and enjoy the country views. When Misael decided to propose to Ellisa he picked his family’s ranch as the perfect spot, during one of their drives out in the field on the gator.

Ellisa noticed Misael seemed a little off or nervous that night, but wasn’t really sure what was going on. When he suggested they go for a ride in the gator, she didn’t think it was anything out-of-the-ordinary. Yet when she went to open the glove compartment, Misael freaked out and told her not to look in there. She thought that was weird, but he played it off and off they went for their drive. Little did Ellisa know that her engagement ring was riding along in the glove compartment, and she had almost ruined the surprise.

Misael drove Ellisa out under a tree on a hill that overlooks the ranch. And as her back was turned to him, looking out over the view, he got down on one knee behind her and touched her leg. She swatted his hand away, thinking he was messing with her. But when he kept touching her leg, she turned around and realized what was happening. Misael asked her to spend forever with him as his wife, and she said yes! And so the wedding planning began!

When we were meeting with them and discussing their engagement session, they brought up the idea of doing their session at Misael’s family’s ranch, photographing them at the same spot Misael had proposed. We loved the idea! I mean, how cool will it be to show your children an engagement photo and tell them that’s the exact spot where your dad proposed to me?!?

So we drove out to Dublin, Texas on Sunday to photograph these two Sweethearts for their engagement portraits.

Being with Misael & Ellisa again reminded us just how much fun they are as a couple. They laughed so much during their session, and caused us to laugh along with them. Especially when we wanted the cows in the background of their portrait and had to call on their parents to herd them around for us.

The joy they have in their relationship is so evident you just know they are going to have such a happy marriage, full of love and laughter. And it all started with an awkward conversation at a friend's party!

Robert & Abbie | Downtown Warehouse Wedding at The Palladium | Waco, Texas

A bride  & groom leave their warehouse reception at The Palladium while guests wave glow sticks, Downtown Waco Texas - www.jasonandmelaina.com

Gather round, friends, because we want to tell you the story of one of the most heart-warming and fun weddings. The story of Robert & Abbie’s wedding day.

In case you missed Robert & Abbie’s engagement story, let me catch you up real quick. These two Sweethearts met in high school (HIGH SCHOOL!) as members of the same church in Houston. Fast-forward to freshmen year of college and they decided to make a long-distance relationship work while Abbie attended Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth and Robert studied at Baylor University in Waco. And for the remainder of their college career, they made it work by driving the stretch of I-35 between Waco and Ft.Worth constantly. Then right before senior year, on a perfect Waco date night while tossing tortillas from the Suspension Bridge, Robert proposed to Abbie. She said yes, and the wedding planning began.

And what a wedding that was planned! With so many Waco date nights, a proposal on the Suspension Bridge, and with Abbie joining Robert here in Waco now that she’s graduated TCU, Waco is definitely a big part of these Sweethearts’ love story. So it seemed fitting that Waco would continue to tell the story of their wedding day.

Abbie and her bffs/bridesmaids stayed in a real-life Fixer Upper house, and it was the perfect space for all the late night fun and getting glammed up for the wedding day. Robert & Abbie chose The Palladium as their venue, an elegant warehouse style venue perfectly situated in downtown Waco. Not only does The Palladium’s interior offer some gorgeous views, with it’s wood ceilings, stained concrete floors, exposed brick and floor-to-ceiling windows. But it’s location in the heart of downtown Waco across from The Hippodrome provides some great cityscape backgrounds for golden hour portraits while the reception rocks on nearby.

But Robert & Abbie’s wedding wasn’t simply gorgeous and heart-warming because of the pretty locations (and that blush wedding gown!). It was gorgeous and heart-warming because of all the little moments that made up their day.

Moments like arriving at the rehearsal to see Abbie holding a puppy and beaming through tears because Robert just gave her that sweet puppy as one of the best wedding gifts. Moments like seeing Abbie’s besties from TCU all chip in during the dollar dance to dance with her as a group, realizing this was one last hurrah before they all go their separate ways now that graduation is over. It’s seeing Abbie walked down the aisle by her mother, a team of two who have been best friends for so long. Fun moments like when DJ Jon from RR The Voice Productions played the TCU fight song for Abbie and her friends, and then followed it up by playing the Baylor fight song for Robert and his fellow Bears. It was moments of seeing these Sweethearts cheered on and surrounded by their friends on the dance floor, dancing the night away in celebration of their love.

And it's those moments from their wedding day we pray Robert & Abbie remember forever.

Dustin & Virginia | Engagement Portraits in Belton | Belton, Texas

A couple holds one another and looks into each other's eyes during their engagement session in Yettie Polk Park in Belton, Texas

Dustin & Virginia hold a special place in our hearts! One of Dustin’s sisters, Melanie, is a friend of ours at church, and we’ve even photographed her family a couple of times. Dustin’s other sister, Pamela, along with her husband, Michael, were one of our 2017 Sweetheart couples. (See their beautiful spring wedding at La Rio Mansion here.)

So when Dustin, Melanie, and Pamela’s mom reached out to us to see if we had Dustin’s wedding date available, we were so happy to find that we did! We feel like we already know Dustin & Virginia through working with Dustin’s family multiple times, and even meeting them at Michael & Pamela’s wedding. Now that we’re joining Dustin & Virginia’s wedding day team, it feels like we are their family’s official photographers. And we love that!

Even though we had met Dustin & Virginia before, we didn’t know their love story. So it was so sweet to read what Dustin wrote to us about how he & Virginia’s story began.

These two Sweethearts met when Virginia began working at the same restaurant as Dustin. Though there was immediate attraction, dating was out of the question since Dustin was Virginia’s supervisor. But when she switched to another restaurant, this opened up the door for their relationship to officially begin.

There was a hiccup in their story, however, when Virginia moved to New Orleans and then back to Honduras. The two stayed in contact as best as they could, but the future of their relationship seemed uncertain with the distance between them.

Then one day while at work, Dustin received a text from Virginia, telling him to go outside. Unsure of what was happening, Dustin walked outside to find Virginia standing there in person. And as Dustin says, “The rest is history.” These Sweethearts picked up where they left off, and now they are a few weeks out from their wedding day.

And we can’t wait to be there with them at the end of June, documenting this next chapter in their love story as their marriage begins!

Dear Dustin & Virginia,

We are so glad to get to know you two, and so honored you've chosen us to document your love story. We can't wait to be with you again at the end of June! And sometime soon we'll have to get a taste of your famous BBQ!
