Philip & Hailey were so excited to have their engagement photos taken in Cameron Park. Not only is it a beautiful location right in the heart of Waco, but it holds a special meaning for them. Philip took Hailey up to Lovers Leap for their first date, and that special spot is where their love story began.

So when we were all deciding where to tell their love story in their engagement portraits session, we knew we had to end up at Lover’s Leap!

As we were watching the weather that week (like we always do), we saw there was a 20% chance of rain the evening of the photo shoot. 20% hardly ever amounts to anything, so we went ahead as scheduled. But this one time, things didn’t turn out like we all expected!

We chose one of our favorite little nooks near the Bosque River as our starting location. We ran Philip & Hailey through our posing technique, and got them set up for a photo. Jason started getting into place to take their photo, and I was standing on the edge of the river. I looked out and saw rain coming down far off, but noticed it was coming our way quickly. Soon rain drops began to make little circles on the river near us. And then suddenly, it was a downpour!

Philip, Hailey, and I huddled under our lighting umbrella, while Jason ran to hide under tree cover and keep the gear dry. For the next 15 minutes, it rained so hard that rain was blowing sideways across the river. We watched kayakers who were stuck out in the middle of the river frantically paddle to get over to the opposite shore from us. We all hunkered down until it passed, and while we tried our best to keep Philip & Hailey dry, they still got partially soaked.

And then just as quickly as it came, the rain was gone. The sun broke through the clouds. The trees hung with rain drops. The woods of Cameron Park had a misty quality to them. And Philip & Hailey were still game to go on with the engagement session. We all laughed as huge raindrops would fall from the tree limbs above and audibly land on Philip or Hailey’s head as we continued in the photo shoot.

We all dried off and loaded up to drive to Lover’s Leap. Once there, we were rewarded with a spectacular view of the clearing (and approaching) rain clouds as they hung over Waco. As we walked up, Philip pointed out to us the bench they sat on when they first declared their affections for one another.

We were able to photograph these two Sweethearts in their special spot, recreating the magic that hung in the air the evening they started their story together. And after we finished up the session, Jason & I got in our car and drove away, taking one last look at these Sweethearts sitting on “their bench,” watching the storm clouds roll in.

Dear Philip & Hailey,

It was definitely a memorable photo session with y’all! But even without the rain, it would have been memorable. You two are so sweet to one another, and watching you together makes us excited for your future.

Love, J&M

Jeremiah & Shannon | Cameron Park Engagement Session | Waco, Texas

Jeremiah & Shannon met while swing dancing in Austin. They kept dancing together whenever they’d go swing dancing, and eventually started spending more time together off the dance floor. Their love of dancing, working out, and movies meant they always had fun together. They decided they wanted to be each other’s forever dancing partners, and so during a trip to Chicago, Jeremiah took Shannon on a tour of a beautiful greenhouse in the city. Inside, he proposed to Shannon with the ring she had saved on her Pinterest board. After she said yes, they took a cruise on Lake Michigan. Talk about a romantic proposal!

Since their engagement, Jeremiah & Shannon have been busy building a life here in Waco and planning their wedding. Their June 15th wedding day will be here soon, so we met them in Cameron Park for their engagement portrait session at the end of April.

When deciding where to have the engagement session, we always ask our Sweethearts what locations are important to them and their story. Is there a particular spot where a milestone in their story occurred, like a proposal? Or is there a favorite date night spot that’ll be the perfect backdrop for the session?

We do this because we want to give our Sweethearts more than pretty engagement photos. We want them to be able to show their children and grandchildren these photos and point out exactly where grandpa proposed, or where their favorite date night spot was when they were younger.

Jeremiah & Shannon chose Cameron Park and Waco’s iconic Suspension Bridge as the location for their engagement session. They love hiking and the outdoors in Cameron Park, so they wanted to document that favorite date day location. And they wanted an iconic spot in Waco to symbolize how they are starting their new life together here in Waco. We thought those were great choices!

We had so many fun moments during this session with Jeremiah & Shannon! They were game for hiking through some of the trails to capture the beautiful green trees in Cameron Park. And Cameron Park kept showing off this spring with all its wildflowers, so standing in a field of them was a no-brainer for these two!

One of our favorite memories was when we really got to see their playful side during the session when they started swing dancing for us. Between the dancing and working out, they are both strong, which was lucky for us so we could ask them to hold some swing poses to get great photos!

We can’t wait to see these two tear up the dance floor at their wedding reception!

Dear Jeremiah & Shannon,

We hope these final weeks of wedding planning and preparation are filled with excitement and joy. And that you always find reasons to dance together!

Elijah & Jessica | Cameron Park Sunset Wedding | Waco, Texas

We kicked off our 2019 wedding season with Elijah & Jessica’s romantic sunset ceremony at Lover’s Leap in Cameron Park. And they were such a fun and beautiful couple to start the year with!

Back in 2012, Jessica was the director for the youth program with Mission Waco and Elijah started volunteering with the youth there. They developed a close friendship while working together, and Elijah got up the nerve to ask Jessica to “hang out” for the 4th of July. It was a wonderful first date, fireworks included, and the two began hanging out more and more. Only 10 days later, Jessica asked Elijah, “So, are we doing this thing or what?” And they became an official couple.

Fast forward to August 9, 2017. Jessica’s friend wanted to take her out for her birthday. But first they needed to stop by the Jubilee Theater at Mission Waco for nostalgia sake. When Jessica walked into the theater, she saw all their close family and friends, and her dad led her to a special seat on the front row. On the screen began to play an animated timeline of her relationship with Elijah. After the film ended, Elijah walked out on stage, got down on one knee and asked Jessica, “So, are we doing this thing, or what?” Jessica said YES! and these two Sweethearts began planning their forever.

Elijah & Jessica found a gorgeous ceremony spot at Lover’s Leap in Cameron Park. Nestled off to the side of the beautiful overlook is this green spot under a large tree, perfect for a golden hour ceremony. The rain from that morning drifted on and by ceremony time, the light and location were so romantic and beautiful , exactly what this couple deserved.

After the ceremony, Elijah & Jessica squeezed in a dramatic mini-session in front of the cliff overlook in Brazos Park East. Then they joined their family and friends at Cultivate 7Twelve for their rocking wedding reception. Watching Jessica dance with both her dad and mom, seeing Elijah dance with his mom, hearing meaningful and fun toasts, and seeing all their close family and friends celebrate their love was the perfect ending to such a wonderful start to a marriage. When we asked Jessica what meant the most to her on their wedding day, she said having a “…moment in time for us to have all of our favorite things in one place to celebrate our love and commitment to each other.” And we couldn’t agree more.

Dear Elijah & Jessica,

We pray the love you felt from all your family and friends, and the love you felt for one another, on your wedding day will be a memory you carry with you throughout the years. May each anniversary give you a chance to remember these moments and look forward to many more.
