Photographing weddings at Moon River Ranch is one of our favorite things. Not just because the venue itself is gorgeous (which it is). But because of the camp-like atmosphere the venue brings to our Sweethearts weddings.

We know that a Moon River Ranch wedding is going to bring together the bride and groom’s families and friends for multiple days, and give them opportunities to bond together over playing in the pool, skeet shooting, yard games, hay rides, and all the wedding activities. So on the wedding day, it’s like there’s one big happy family all celebrating the couple together. That makes for a magical start to a marriage, and Marco & Heather’s wedding was no exception.

Marco & Heather are one of the sweetest, most genuine couples we’ve met. So it was no surprise their families and friends were just as lovely. When we arrived at Moon River on their wedding day, May 25th, Heather was with her bridesmaids getting hair and make up done. I (Melaina) photographed them as they told stories of European vacations, and laughed over shared memories together. Jason went to join Marco and his groomsmen shooting skeet, and photographed them as they had a friendly competition and joked around.

When all the girls were ready, we snuck them outside to get some portraits of Heather and her girls, making sure Marco was not going to see her. Then, when it was time for Marco and his guy’s portraits, Heather requested we take all the guys and get a photo in front of the smoker with a Texas flag. Marco was the only one that lives in the US, with his groomsmen being brothers and cousins from Italy, or a close friend from Ireland by way of Canada. To see all these guys in their cowboy hats, bolos, jeans, and boots was a quite a Texas moment, and Heather wanted to make sure it was documented.

Marco & Heather wanted to see each other before their ceremony, but they wanted it to be a special, private moment between them. So we brought them into the chapel for a romantic first look. After this special moment, it was time to get ready for the ceremony, and party on into the night.

There were so many special, little moments throughout Marco & Heather’s wedding day. Seeing Heather walked down the aisle by both her grandfathers was a very sentimental moment. As was seeing her brother ring the church bell when she and Marco were pronounced husband & wife. Seeing the love these Sweethearts have for one another, written all over their faces when they were sharing their personal vows.

Sneaking them out of their reception to photograph them at sunset under an expansive Texas sky. Watching them open and pour the largest bottle of champagne we’ve seen, brought to Texas by Marco’s father especially for his wedding day. Hearing Marco & Heather’s best friends and siblings share heartfelt toasts. Watching them and all their family and friends dance the night away, building memories that will last a lifetime.

And then at the end of the night, Marco & Heather ran through a tunnel of loved ones, holding high sparklers, as they started their new life together.

Matt & Ashlee | Moon River Ranch Wedding

When we first met Matt and Ashlee, I was struck by the ease of their relationship. They seemed so in sync with one another, so at ease in who they were as individuals and how that shaped them as a couple. It was as if we were in the presence of an old-married-couple, but in the best way possible. Over drinks at Starbucks we learned they were high school sweethearts who had grown up together in a small town outside of Waco. "Of course!" I thought. They've already invested years into this relationship, no wonder they seem so perfectly matched. As we spent time with them over coffee, and at their engagement shoot, it just became more apparent we were in the presence of a real-deal, forever kind of love.

What was truly heart-warming about being able to photograph Matt and Ashlee's love on their wedding day was that this love radiated to all who were there. Not only was it obvious Matt loved Ashlee and Ashlee loved Matt, but it was obvious Ashlee's family loved Matt and Matt's family loved Ashlee. The bridesmaids were clearly deep friends with a special place in their heart for Ashlee, and the groomsmen were solid friends who cared for Matt like a brother. Everyone loved everyone, and was so excited to share in the celebration of Matt and Ashlee's love. Being able to be in that kind of love for a day makes our role as wedding photographers that much more meaningful and inspiring.

And when such heart-felt, obvious love is being showcased in as gorgeous a venue as Moon River Ranch? Well, that's just a recipe for magic.

Moon River Ranch is one of our favorite places to shoot, and not just because it has so many beautiful areas to offer. (But seriously, it has so many beautiful places!) We get excited when our #JandMsweethearts tell us they booked Moon River Ranch because it usually means the majority of the wedding party, family and close friends will be staying on the property for the weekend. So when we arrive early in the morning of the wedding day, all the most important people in our bride and groom's lives have been together already for half a weekend, building a camaraderie we could never manufactured. Then we just get to be inspired by the friendship and love before us, with the backdrop of gorgeous pecan groves and picturesque barns and chapels and rivers.

It's the best.

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Brewster! It was an honor having you as one of our #JandMsweethearts.

Ashlee's Bridals | Moon River Ranch

You know that moment when you are attending a wedding and you're waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle because you can't wait to see her in her gorgeous dress?

Well, that's how I always feel when we head to a bridal shoot. I'm getting a sneak-peek at what everyone is still going to have to wait weeks to see. And when our #JandMbride comes out in her dress, it always takes my breath away.

Ashlee was no exception. We had so much fun shooting her engagement portraits with her fiance, Matt. I was looking forward to seeing what sort of gown Ashlee had chosen, and when I saw her, all I could think was, "That's perfect!" It was such a beautiful, elegant gown, which completely went with her style and vision for her wedding day.

Since Ashlee and Matt were getting married at one of our favorite venues in the Waco area, Moon River Ranch, we were able to meet her there for her bridal portrait session. There's something so special about taking pictures of bride in her gown in the exact spot she will say "I do" in just a few weeks.

Ashlee, you were radiant in your beautiful gown. Thanks for taking our breath away.
