Justin & Tiffany | Belton Lake Engagement Portraits | Belton, Texas

Justin & Tiffany have been friends since middle school, and in a relationship for 7 years. They even work together, with Tiffany working as an admin and Justin working at a mechanic at a local shop in town. To say they’ve spent a lot of their life together is an understatement. We love hearing stories like Justin & Tiffany’s, of Sweethearts who have a hard time remembering a time in their lives when they weren’t best friends.

Both Justin & Tiffany enjoy the outdoors and being outside in nature. When they have some free time, they’ll drive to the beach, or go hunting, or spend time on their boat. But one of their favorite things to do together is to go fishing, often going fishing near Belton Lake Dam.

Belton Lake Dam is a special place for these Sweethearts and one of their favorite spots to visit on dates. One special date night at the Dam- after they had climbed down the rocks and gotten closer to the lake, with the sun set turning the sky orange- Justin pulled out a ring and asked Tiffany to marry him. She said yes.

To mark the occasion, they added a gold lock to the fence at the Belton Lake Dam’s lookout. They wrote their initials and the date, and then placed the lock on the fence along with all the other locks left behind by couples before them.

When it came time to pick the location for their engagement session, keeping things in Belton and using the sunset at Belton Lake Dam was a no-brainer. We started at a creek in a nearby park, and dodged the other Beltonians who were fishing, wading in the water, or having their own photo shoot. Then, just in time for sunset, we hiked down the rocks at Belton Lake Dam and made our way to where Justin proposed to Tiffany.

We love being able to capture some romantic engagement pictures on the exact spot where the proposal happened. Because we like to think that years later, our Sweethearts can show their grandchildren pictures of the exact spot where Grandpa proposed to Grandma, and smile at one another as their grandkids say “Awww” and exclaim how young Grandpa and Grandma look.

Dear Justin & Tiffany,

Y’all are such an adorable couple, and it’s obvious you’re each other’s best friend. We know you have many years of date nights fishing ahead of you. We can’t wait to be with you again in September when you start the next chapter of your love story!

Ernie & Stephanie | Glen Rose Engagement Session | Glen Rose, Texas

Last November we had the joy of photographing Misael & Ellisa’s wedding. It was there we first met Ellisa’s close friend and bridesmaid, Stephanie. A few months later, we got a DM from Stephanie asking if we had August 31, 2019 available. She and her fiance, Ernie, were having their wedding celebration that day and they wanted us to be a part of it. We’ve met a lot of bridesmaids over the years, so it’s always fun when we get to see one again for her own wedding!

Ernie & Stephanie first met as freshmen at Tarleton State back in the day. They dated for a brief period that year, but ended up parting ways. They continued on with their studies at Tarleton State and graduated, and then both moved into adult world with jobs and homes.

Then, in 2012, Ernie sent Stephanie a Facebook message to connect and catch up on life. They jokingly say Stephanie ignored the message, and five years passed. But luckily, in 2017, Ernie decided to message Stephanie again. This time, she responded to his message, and the two of them met up for lunch to catch up on life since their freshmen year at Tarleton.

At that lunch, they both recognized a connection between them that was still there, and it wasn’t too long after they began their long distance relationship. And after about a year of long distance, these Sweethearts decided to close the distance between them and get married!

When we were discussing the perfect spot for their engagement portrait session, we all agreed returning to the Glen Rose area would mean a lot for them. It’s where Stephanie grew up and her family still lives, and a place they visit frequently as a couple. We even began their session at her parents’ home, because it was where Ernie proposed.

During her family’s Christmas, Ernie gave Stephanie her gift. She opened the larger gift to see the smaller ring box inside. Surrounded by her family, next to the Christmas tree, Ernie got down on one knee and asked Stephanie to be his wife. With such a romantic proposal, we loved the idea of starting our session where their journey to marriage began!

After taking some sentimental photos of these Sweethearts at her parents’ home, including in a sweet little patch of wildflowers near her parents’ driveway, we headed to our next stop. Heading into Glen Rose there is an abandoned structure of an old home made of petrified rock. Stephanie said a lot of locals take photos there, but it was especially meaningful for her to do so because it was her dad’s childhood home.

After a little photo shoot at the petrified rock home, we headed into Glen Rose proper and stopped at a local park. This park had historic buildings from Glen Rose throughout, and a beautiful walking path along the river. It was the perfect spot for a romantic sunset stroll. And as the sun faded in the big Texas sky, we grabbed some beautiful engagement photos of these two Sweethearts.

Dear Ernie & Stephanie,

It was so fun connecting with y’all during your session, and our Dairy Queen double-date afterwards! We hope you treasure these photos and remember this wonderful season of starting your married life together whenever you look at them. We can’t wait to see y’all again in August!

Bret & Sidney | Tarleton State University Engagement Session | Stephenville, Texas

I (Melaina) met Sidney, her mom, and Bret’s mom at the With This Ring Bridal Show in January of this year. We really hit it off and I was secretly hoping they’d pick us as the perfect photographers for their wedding. So when Sidney won a free bridal portrait from us at the show, that sealed the deal for all of us. And luckily so, because Sidney was the 5th bride that day who came to our booth with an October 5, 2019 wedding date, so I’m glad she made her decision that afternoon and didn’t wait!

A few months later, we met Bret & Sidney for a coffee double-date in downtown Waco and learned more about their love story. They grew up in the same area and had known each other since middle school. But it was their high school job as lifeguards at the local pool that brought them together. They began dating Sidney’s senior year of high school, and have been inseparable ever since.

Sidney’s loves Christmas, so Bret knew he needed to incorporate her favorite holiday in his proposal. On a trip to visit a large Christmas light trail in the DFW area, Bret had a large bridge covered in Christmas lights cleared so just he and Sidney could be alone. Then, when it was just the two of them, he asked her to be his wife. She said yes, and suddenly they were surrounded by family and friends to celebrate. Such a romantic holiday proposal!

Since their engagement, Bret & Sidney have been busy planning their October 5th wedding...and being college students at Tarleton State University. Bret graduates this year, but Sidney still has a little bit more to go. When it came time to pick a location for their engagement portraits session, the college campus where they’ve spent most of their relationship together made perfect sense.

Tarleton State is such a pretty campus that even if it wasn’t their school, it would have been a beautiful spot for their engagement session. But it was meaningful that it was their school, and it was fun to hear Bret share all these cool details about the campus and culture of Tarleton State. We took some portraits in front of the beautiful president’s home in the middle of campus, and said hi to him when he came out for his evening walk. We stopped in the popular gazebo and let Bret & Sidney have a romantic moment to dance together there. And then they took us to a pretty walkway they often take to get between classes.

Bret & Sidney wanted to showcase a little more of their relationship in this session, and have some fun. So they suggested we get some shots of them long-boarding together. Bret is really talented at it, and he’s been teaching Sidney for a while. Though she feels more confident riding her bike next to him when he long-boards, she was game to try it out in her dress and everything for the session. And she looked great doing it!
