Stephen & Ariel | Star Wars Engagement Portraits | Waco, Texas

Star-Wars-Engagement-Session_0013.jpg

We met Stephen & Ariel way back in January 2018 when they were starting to plan their May 2019 wedding. Why were they waiting 17 months for their wedding? Well, when you have such a passion for Star Wars, Saturday, May 4th, 2019 is the perfect day to get married!

Star Wars has always been a part of Stephen & Ariel’s story. Both of them are fans of the Star Wars story, and we mean the whole story! In fact, their favorite characters are actually characters outside of the movies that we had never heard of. Their true devotion to the Star Was universe, though, began when Ariel was gifted a Storm trooper outfit from a co-worker. Stephen got his own Sith outfit, and the two of them began to volunteer with the 501st  Legion. The 501st is an international organization that specializes in accurate costumes of the dark side force in the Star Wars universe, as well as charity work throughout the world. They call themselves “the bad guys doing good.” Volunteering for charity work around central Texas with the 501st is one of Stephen & Ariel’s favorite things to do together.

With Star Wars being such an important element to who they are as a couple, of course Star Wars continues to be a part of their wedding journey. Stephen actually proposed to Ariel using a R2D2 and gave her an R2D2 inspired ring for his proposal. And when we began planning their engagement photo session with them, we knew it wasn’t going to be a typical session. Our goal is to always tell the story of our #JandMSweethearts, especially in the engagement session. We’re way more interested in recreating a favorite date night activity or visiting the place of the proposal. So when Ariel said they’d like to bring the light sabers they were having custom-made for their wedding day, we knew engagement photos with light sabers was going to be a new thing for us.

We’re so glad Ariel & Stephen wanted their session to include the light sabers, and that we even postponed the session to make sure the light sabers would be there in time! We had so much fun setting up light saber duels, and the other people at Lover’s Leap in Cameron Park were definitely interested in what we were doing. But we think our favorite moments were placing Stephen & Ariel on a tucked-away trail Ariel’s sister, Elyse, wanted to try. We got to really see their love for Star Wars, but more importantly, their love for one another.

After having such a fun Star Wars themed engagement session, we can’t wait to share how epic their Star Wars wedding is going to be. We won’t share any details here now since some of the cool stuff they’re having is a surprise, but we can’t wait for May the 4th to get here!

Samantha | Bridal Portraits in Salado, Texas

Bride poses in a field with a Texas sunset behind her in Salado, Texas - Jason & Melaina Photography - www.jasonandmelaina.com

We were starting to wonder if having bridal portraits taken was a dying fad since we hadn’t had a bride request that in a while. But then Samantha came along with her princess dress from JoAnn’s Bridal and said she wanted a portrait session in her gown, and we were so excited!

Samantha is a true Disney fan, even having a job as a princess for little girls’ parties! So when we she came out in her dress, with it’s beautiful beaded detail on the bodice and full princess skirt, we immediately thought of Disney princesses. It was almost what we would imagine Belle would wear when she married the Beast!

We started our bridal session in a gorgeous private home in Salado, Texas. When we walked in and saw the spiral staircase, we knew it would be a perfect spot to showcase such a perfect dress! After the home, we made our way down to the famous green bridge in downtown Salado. Samantha wanted to climb up on the railing, and before Jason could make sure it was a clean and safe spot for her, she had already hopped up and made herself comfortable, proving she was as much a cowgirl as a princess. We timed our session just right to end up in this expansive field right at sunset. And while we were in the field, the deer nearby walked past to check out Samantha, making her seem even more like a Disney princess.

Then we went home and had to sit on these images until Samantha’s wedding day to Hayden came. And it was so hard! We did send her a password locked gallery with a huge subject line “DON’T OPEN THIS AROUND HAYDEN!” And her and her friends all cried over how amazing she looked in her dress. We just knew Hayden was going to be blown away by it too. And we weren’t disappointed when their big day arrived, the curtains opened to reveal Samantha in her dress coming down the aisle, and Hayden started choking up. (Look forward to that picture in their wedding blog coming soon!)

As we look through this session, we are reminded again of how great it is to have bridal portraits taken. We were able to take time with Samantha in her own session, getting her some beautiful heirloom images to treasure. We weren’t rush in the hustle of the wedding day, trying to squeeze in some bridal portraits before the bride walked down the aisle. And now, when Hayden and Samantha’s children see these pictures of Samantha, they’ll see their mama looking like the princess she really is.

Dear Samantha,

Thank you for restoring our faith in bridal portraits. We hope you remember forever how you felt like a beautiful princess in this session. And that every time you see these pictures for years to come you’re reminded of that feeling!

Dustin & Virginia | Outdoor Rustic Wedding at Rustic Acres | Belton, Texas

In late June we joined Dustin & Virginia for their wedding day, and we’ve been so excited to share their wedding story on the blog!

Dustin and Virginia had their outdoor rustic wedding at Rustic Acres Event Center in Belton, Tx, and it was the perfect venue for their wedding. The ceremony site had lush green grass, even in the Texas summer! The backdrop of the green trees behind the altar framed the ceremony beautifully. And the open fields with hay bales made for some romantic sunset portraits while the reception was rocking along inside the red barn.

Virginia chose a pink, tan and cream color palette, an ideal choice for a rustic Texas wedding in summer! The bridesmaids wore soft pink dresses, while the groomsmen wore a Texas tuxedo - jeans, boots, a white button up shirt, and vest and tie. The tan, pink and cream color palette was carried throughout the wedding day in the large pink rose bouquets carried by the bridal party, the pink roses that adorned the buttercream wedding cake, and the burlap and wood used throughout the decor.

Dustin & Virginia’s wedding was simple, romantic, and full of so many sweet moments. Their daughter was enamored with Virginia’s wedding dress, and kept wanting to touch her skirt. In fact, kids were a big part of the day! Nieces and nephews filled out the bridal party, and little cousins ran around the dance floor all evening. One of the sweetest things to watch during most of the reception was all the dads, grandpas, and uncles dancing with the little girls, teaching them how to two-step and twirl.

We say it every wedding, but it still holds true, our Sweethearts always have the most amazing friends and family. Seeing how everyone gathers to help our Sweethearts have the wedding of their dreams, how they celebrate and cheer on the love shared between the couple...it’s always so heartwarming to see. A marriage is two people, but it’s also their support system. And seeing such a great support system surround Dustin & Virginia gives us faith in the strength of their marriage.
