Philip & Hailey | Rainy Engagement Portraits in Cameron Park | Waco, Texas

Philip & Hailey were so excited to have their engagement photos taken in Cameron Park. Not only is it a beautiful location right in the heart of Waco, but it holds a special meaning for them. Philip took Hailey up to Lovers Leap for their first date, and that special spot is where their love story began.

So when we were all deciding where to tell their love story in their engagement portraits session, we knew we had to end up at Lover’s Leap!

As we were watching the weather that week (like we always do), we saw there was a 20% chance of rain the evening of the photo shoot. 20% hardly ever amounts to anything, so we went ahead as scheduled. But this one time, things didn’t turn out like we all expected!

We chose one of our favorite little nooks near the Bosque River as our starting location. We ran Philip & Hailey through our posing technique, and got them set up for a photo. Jason started getting into place to take their photo, and I was standing on the edge of the river. I looked out and saw rain coming down far off, but noticed it was coming our way quickly. Soon rain drops began to make little circles on the river near us. And then suddenly, it was a downpour!

Philip, Hailey, and I huddled under our lighting umbrella, while Jason ran to hide under tree cover and keep the gear dry. For the next 15 minutes, it rained so hard that rain was blowing sideways across the river. We watched kayakers who were stuck out in the middle of the river frantically paddle to get over to the opposite shore from us. We all hunkered down until it passed, and while we tried our best to keep Philip & Hailey dry, they still got partially soaked.

And then just as quickly as it came, the rain was gone. The sun broke through the clouds. The trees hung with rain drops. The woods of Cameron Park had a misty quality to them. And Philip & Hailey were still game to go on with the engagement session. We all laughed as huge raindrops would fall from the tree limbs above and audibly land on Philip or Hailey’s head as we continued in the photo shoot.

We all dried off and loaded up to drive to Lover’s Leap. Once there, we were rewarded with a spectacular view of the clearing (and approaching) rain clouds as they hung over Waco. As we walked up, Philip pointed out to us the bench they sat on when they first declared their affections for one another.

We were able to photograph these two Sweethearts in their special spot, recreating the magic that hung in the air the evening they started their story together. And after we finished up the session, Jason & I got in our car and drove away, taking one last look at these Sweethearts sitting on “their bench,” watching the storm clouds roll in.

Dear Philip & Hailey,

It was definitely a memorable photo session with y’all! But even without the rain, it would have been memorable. You two are so sweet to one another, and watching you together makes us excited for your future.

Jeremiah & Shannon | St. Louis Catholic Church Wedding | Waco, Texas

A traditional Catholic wedding ceremony inside St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco, Texas - Jason & Melaina Photography - www.jasonandmelaina.com

When we photographed Jeremiah & Shannon for their engagement session, they showed off their dancing skills for us. Considering they met swing dancing in Austin, it’s no surprise this couple are great dancers and love dancing together. So we’ve been looking forward to their wedding reception and seeing them show off some more moves!

Before their fun reception, Jeremiah & Shannon were married in a beautiful Catholic ceremony at their church, St. Louis Catholic Church here in Waco, Texas. The grandeur of the sanctuary, with it’s large stained glass windows, provided the perfect backdrop for their ceremony.

The solemness of the Mass, the grandness of Shannon’s cathedral-length veil down the aisle, the prayers and beautiful singing, all highlighted the grandness of the marriage journey beginning. But the little moments- Jeremiah smiling at Shannon when she wasn’t looking, the laughter between these Sweethearts as they exchanged rings and vows, and the look of joy they had for one another when they were pronounced Mr. & Mrs.- really showed the love they have for one another.

After their beautiful wedding ceremony, Jeremiah & Shannon invited all their family and friends to join them at Whitehall Center at the Carleen Bright Arboretum. There were so many fun details of this reception and special moments, it’s hard to list them all!

Jeremiah created and brewed 5 unique kinds of beer for his guests, even creating custom labels for every bottle. Shannon and her mother hand-crafted every detail, from her beaded bouquet and boutonnieres, to the decor and custom champagne glasses for toasts.

Jeremiah & Shannon did not disappoint in tearing up the dance floor, looking like professional dancers. But Shannon’s brothers were also amazing dancers, as were many guests, so the dance floor was full and fun all evening. From young to old, everyone danced the night away and celebrated the love of these Sweethearts.

And when the evening had come to an end, Jeremiah & Shannon had one private last dance at their wedding, then were sent off with cheers and waving ribbons to start their new life together.

Marco & Heather | Texas Wedding at Moon River Ranch | Satin, Texas

A cowboy and his bride look into one another’s eyes outside of Moon River Ranch on their wedding day | Jason & Melaina Photography | www.jasonandmelaina.com

Photographing weddings at Moon River Ranch is one of our favorite things. Not just because the venue itself is gorgeous (which it is). But because of the camp-like atmosphere the venue brings to our Sweethearts weddings.

We know that a Moon River Ranch wedding is going to bring together the bride and groom’s families and friends for multiple days, and give them opportunities to bond together over playing in the pool, skeet shooting, yard games, hay rides, and all the wedding activities. So on the wedding day, it’s like there’s one big happy family all celebrating the couple together. That makes for a magical start to a marriage, and Marco & Heather’s wedding was no exception.

Marco & Heather are one of the sweetest, most genuine couples we’ve met. So it was no surprise their families and friends were just as lovely. When we arrived at Moon River on their wedding day, May 25th, Heather was with her bridesmaids getting hair and make up done. I (Melaina) photographed them as they told stories of European vacations, and laughed over shared memories together. Jason went to join Marco and his groomsmen shooting skeet, and photographed them as they had a friendly competition and joked around.

When all the girls were ready, we snuck them outside to get some portraits of Heather and her girls, making sure Marco was not going to see her. Then, when it was time for Marco and his guy’s portraits, Heather requested we take all the guys and get a photo in front of the smoker with a Texas flag. Marco was the only one that lives in the US, with his groomsmen being brothers and cousins from Italy, or a close friend from Ireland by way of Canada. To see all these guys in their cowboy hats, bolos, jeans, and boots was a quite a Texas moment, and Heather wanted to make sure it was documented.

Marco & Heather wanted to see each other before their ceremony, but they wanted it to be a special, private moment between them. So we brought them into the chapel for a romantic first look. After this special moment, it was time to get ready for the ceremony, and party on into the night.

There were so many special, little moments throughout Marco & Heather’s wedding day. Seeing Heather walked down the aisle by both her grandfathers was a very sentimental moment. As was seeing her brother ring the church bell when she and Marco were pronounced husband & wife. Seeing the love these Sweethearts have for one another, written all over their faces when they were sharing their personal vows.

Sneaking them out of their reception to photograph them at sunset under an expansive Texas sky. Watching them open and pour the largest bottle of champagne we’ve seen, brought to Texas by Marco’s father especially for his wedding day. Hearing Marco & Heather’s best friends and siblings share heartfelt toasts. Watching them and all their family and friends dance the night away, building memories that will last a lifetime.

And then at the end of the night, Marco & Heather ran through a tunnel of loved ones, holding high sparklers, as they started their new life together.
